Dr. Brenda Garrison
Born and raised in southern Wisconsin, Dr. Garrison and her family have been pleased to become part of the Fort Atkinson community. After receiving her undergraduate and DDS degrees from Marquette University, Dr. Garrison and her husband, James, lived in southern Colorado for two years. While she thoroughly enjoyed her time at an all-children's practice, Dr. Garrison knew that her heart was back closer to family in the Midwest. Through happy circumstances she was put into contact with Dr. Richard Covey, from whom she eventually purchased Highland Dental.
Today, Dr. Garrison and her husband live with their two young daughters and toddler twins (a son and daughter) in Fort Atkinson. James Garrison works as the Director of Finance at Kingdom Workers.
Dr. Garrison thoroughly enjoys practicing dentistry and caring for members of her community. She is also active in her church, Bethany Lutheran, in Fort Atkinson. She plays piano, clarinet, and has also started learning the cello! An outdoor enthusiast, she is looking forward to resuming activities including running, cycling, competing in triathlons, and hiking. She also enjoys traveling, baking, puzzles, and trivia.
Dr. Al Kempema
I was raised in a predominately Dutch community in northwest Iowa. I earned his undergraduate and D.D.S. degrees at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1981.
I had a solo dental practice in Fort Atkinson for over 30 years. I jumped at the opportunity to join Dr. Garrison and her team at Highland Dental on a part-time basis. Dr. Garrison, her staff, and her practice emanate a positive, friendly, and dedicated atmosphere that I appreciate and find very comfortable.
I met my wife, Robin, in college, and in 2019 we will celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. Robin works for Northwestern Mutual Life in the information technology area. We have two married, grown daughters, one living in Virginia and the other in Illinois. We have two energetic and delightful grandsons with whom we love to spend time.
Interests and activities I enjoy include hiking, biking, jogging, reading novels, showing dogs, woodworking, learning to play guitar, and listening to music. I am a dedicated Milwaukee Brewers fan, with baseball being my favorite sport.
Hello, my name is Ruth. I am the office manager at Highland Dental Health. I appreciate Dr. Garrison and Dr. Kempema's passion for their work and strong belief in exceptional patient care and understanding. I enjoy working with the amazing staff at Highland Dental and helping patients achieve their dental goals. My husband Patrick and I have 4 children, 3 of whom are married. We also have 5 beautiful grandchildren that we love spending time with. When I'm not with family I enjoy sitting on our deck with a cup of coffee on a Saturday morning and traveling with Patrick to warm weather in the winter.
Hi, I'm Karry. I have worked at Highland Dental since 2006. I enjoy making a difference in people's lives through good oral health. Dr. Garrison is a tremendous boss to work for, and I am so happy to come to work each day. She says she appreciates my amazing fix-it skills and my great laugh. My husband Matt and I live in Waterloo. We have a little boy, Tyler and a dog named Charles. Outside of the office I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, baking, exercising, and camping.
Hi- I'm Diane. I grew up in a dental family and knew from a young age that dental hygiene was the career I wanted to follow. Educating patients about their oral health and seeing the positive changes made is what keeps me excited about this career.
I'm a graduate of Marquette University and a big Golden Eagles fan! My husband Stan and I are the proud parents of four children and have one beautiful grandson and one amazing granddaughter.
Outside of work I love watching sports, reading, traveling, and spending time with my family, including my mutt, Georgie.

Hi. My name is Annette. Working part-time at Highland Dental as the Administrative Assistant is a big change for me. However, I am enjoying the challenge. My goal this year is to learn some dental terminology and the workings of the office program in order to better assist patients. The staff and Doctors at Highland Dental have been very welcoming and are wonderful to work alongside.
I recently retired from teaching after 35 years. My last six years were spent with the Edgerton School District as the English as a Second Language Instructor where I had the privilege of working with all levels of students 5K-12. My teaching experiences have included 1st - 3rd grades, ESL, adult English instruction, and graduate level ESL courses.
I live in Edgerton with my fiancé, Steve, and our English bulldog, Otis. I have two grown children who live in the area and six beautiful grandchildren. Spending time with them brings me great joy and definitely keeps me busy. Being a grandma is the best! Steve and I love to travel and are currently working on seeing parts of the U.S. we either haven’t seen before or haven’t visited in years. Reading and scrapbooking are a few of my favorite downtime activities.
